PHOTO CONTESTS – OFFICIAL RULES

NO PURCHASE OR FEE NECESSARY TO PARTICIPATE OR WIN

ELIGIBILITY: The 2015 ARTSpace/Redoubt Reporter Fine Art Photography Contests are open to all Alaska residents with a permanent Alaska U.S. mail address and who are either amateur photographers or emerging photographic artists.

Exclusions: Professional photographers are not eligible to participate or win. Employees and principals of ARTSpace, Inc., the City of Soldotna, the Redoubt Reporter, and the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce (collectively termed the “Sponsor” here), and their immediate family members nor any related and unrelated persons living in same household of an excluded person, are not eligible to participate or win.

Sponsors reserve the right to verify and determine whether all eligibility requirements are met.

All decisions Final and Discretionary:  All decisions relating to these Contests, including eligibility, award of prizes, and decisions to include or exclude work, are the sole, final, and non-justiciable discretion of the jurors, the sponsor and its employees, principals, and officers.  No liability shall pertain to any person for any decision or disqualification.

This contest is subject to all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, whether or not stated here.

Publication and Publicity:  By entering, each entrant hereby agrees and consents to the use of any entered photographs, with attribution but without the need for any further permission from entrant and without the payment of any further compensation to entrant, for publication in the Redoubt Reporter newspaper and its web site, for Sponsor publicity purposes as set out below, and for inclusion in photographic compendiums and books derived from these Contests and entries. Sponsor may, at a later time, invite some entrants to participate in other related art events.

HOW TO ENTER:  
Fine Arts Body of Work Contest: “Bodies of work”, defined here as a series of six to ten related fine art images that cohesively examine a specific subject, place or technique, are preferred. Single images are also welcome but limited to consideration for a single $100 award.  These entries shall be labeled as “fine art contest”. Not more than a total of two submitted bodies of work and three additional single images will be accepted from an entrant.

Greater City of Soldotna Contest: In addition to the Fine Art Contest above, an entrant may also submit not more than five (5) images per person. Each image submitted by any person must be substantially different from any other entry submitted by that person, as determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion. Entries will be judged based on the photographer’s depiction of life, recreation, economy, and/or nature in, around, and directly pertaining to the City of Soldotna. These entries shall be labelled as “Soldotna Contest”.

How to Submit Entries: Visit https://artspacealaska.org/ for an online entry form and follow the directions provided to upload your photograph[s]. All photographs must be digital in nature and submitted as JPEG files via Email, with each image file appropriately identified by file name and contest form entry.  All entries must be accompanied by a scanned completed and signed entry form.

Online Entry Submission Format: All submissions should be in fully corrected, highest quality JPEG format suitable for immediate use.  Entries lacking sufficient technical quality and resolution, or that are inappropriate for any reason, may be disqualified in the sole and final discretion of the judges.

Prizes and Awards: Entries submitted online will be eligible in their respective category for first, second and third place awards.  Cash awards will be as follows for each category:

Fine Art Contest:  Bodies of Work:  First Place – $200, Second Place – $100, Third Place $50.    Individual image winner – $100.
City of Soldotna Contest:  First Place – $200, Second Place – $100, Third Place $50

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

*Entry must be the original work of the entrant.  The entrant in making the submission certifies that the entrant is an amateur or emerging photographic artist, and is the sole owner of the copyright of such entry.

* This is a family-friendly contest and all entries must be suitable for general publication and public display in a variety of environments where children and persons of all ages are present.

* Entries must not be offensive or inappropriate to the Contest’s purposes and Sponsor as determined by the Sponsor in its sole discretion, nor can any image defame or invade publicity rights or privacy of any person, living or deceased, or otherwise infringe upon any person’s personal or property rights or any other third-party rights.

* Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any entry it deems to be offensive, inappropriate for any reason, or that is otherwise not in compliance with the terms of these Official Rules.

* All decisions and awards are made in the sole, complete, and final discretion of the jurors and Sponsors.

* Entrant must have obtained the prior express written consent to submit any entry that contains or depicts persons other than the entrant and, if requested to do so, produce such written consent from appropriate parties in a form and manner acceptable to Sponsor.
* Definitions: An amateur photographer is a photographer who photographs for non-monetary purposes, such as family, personal, and fine art photography.

An emerging photographic artist is a photographer who either desires to be or holds him/herself out to be a professional fine art photographer but who has not participated in more than one solo photographic art gallery exhibit at a regional art center, university gallery, or similar display space.

A professional photographer is defined here as a person who works as, advertises as, or solicits business as a photographer for any financial compensation (but not including the occasional sale of fine art prints at exhibits and galleries).

WINNER NOTIFICATION: Potential winners will be notified by telephone, mail and/or e-mail within two weeks of the August 21, 2015 entry deadline. The Sponsor may require a entrant to execute and return an Affidavit of Eligibility and Liability and, unless prohibited, a Publicity Release, and any additional documents that may be required by prize providers within fourteen (14) days of date of issuance. Noncompliance with this time period or with these Official Rules, or the return of any prize notification as undeliverable, may result in disqualification and, at the Sponsor’s discretion, the prize will be awarded to an applicable runner-up.

USE OF ENTRY
: By submitting an entry, each entrant grants Sponsor and its designees an irrevocable, royalty-free, non-exclusive perpetual license for the commercially reasonable reproduction, use and distribution of any and all entries, and his/her name, city and state of residence for credit attribution purposes in the printed and on-line versions of the Redoubt Reporter and in Sponsor’s online galleries, without further compensation, notification or permission, unless prohibited by law.  Entries used in this manner will not be overtly manipulated except for cropping and/or collaging as necessary for appropriate layout and except for enhancement to suit the requirements of a particular forum or media.

In addition, each winner grants to the Sponsor and its designees an irrevocable, royalty-free, non-exclusive, perpetual license to reproduce, use and distribute in any commercially reasonable manner any submitted entries, including  his/her name, city and state of residence for credit purposes, in any and all media, including without limitation, websites, for any legitimate commercial and promotional purposes, such as displaying selected entries, promotion of this Contest and other Sponsor’s contests and/or for the purposes of advertising and promoting Sponsor and, except as otherwise stated herein, without further compensation, notification or permission, unless prohibited by law.  Entries used in this manner will not be overtly manipulated except for cropping and/or collaging as necessary for appropriate layout and except for enhancement to suit the requirements of a particular forum or media.

For the Greater City of Soldotna Contest, each winner grants to the City of Soldotna and the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce an irrevocable, royalty-free, non-exclusive, perpetual license to use, reproduce and distribute in a commercially reasonably manner his or her entry[ies] either individually or with other selected entries, for any legal purpose, with publication and identification of his/her name, city and state of residence for credit purposes, and additionally for the production and display of downtown street banners located throughout the City of Soldotna. Entries used in this manner will not be overtly manipulated except for cropping and/or collaging as necessary for appropriate layout and except for enhancement to suit the requirements of a particular forum or media.

MISCELLANEOUS:
Although reasonable care will be taken, sponsors and their employees, officers and principals are not responsible for late, lost, garbled, damaged, incomplete, delayed, undelivered, or misdirected entries or photographs or for computer, technical, printing, typographical, human or other errors relating to or in connection with the Contest, without limitation. Sponsors reserve the right to cancel, terminate or modify the contests in their sole discretion and for any commercially reasonable reason. Any attempt to intervene, tamper with, or otherwise affect the integrity of the contest and jurying process shall result in immediate disqualification.

By entering, entrant agrees (i) to be bound by the terms of these Official Rules and the decisions of the Sponsor and judges, which are final and binding in all respects and made in the sole discretion of Sponsor and jurors, and, (ii) to hold jurors, sponsors, and their employees, officers and principals (collectively, the “Released Parties”), harmless against any and all claims and liability arising, in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, out of or in connection with participation in this Contest, acceptance and use of any prize, or Released Parties’ use, reproduction and distribution of any of the rights granted herein.
